3. Sunday school colouring pages

Three pages for different ages. Print the one that fits your class, or all three for a mixed group.

Page 1: Friends sharing bread · Simple (ages 3 to 5)

  • Bible story: The first believers share meals together (Acts 2:46).
  • Verse to print on the page: "Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!" (Psalm 133:1, KJV)
  • Line-art brief: Three smiling friends sitting around a round table with one big loaf of bread in the middle. Very thick outlines (about 4 pt), one large central figure and no more than 3 or 4 big shapes in the background. No small details. Black line art only, no shading or grey fill. US Letter portrait (8.5 x 11 in) with 0.5 in margins. A 'Name: ________' line at the top, a band about 1.5 in tall at the bottom with the verse in a clear, friendly font, and a small 'christiankits.com' credit in the bottom corner.

Page 2: The first church · Medium (ages 6 to 8)

  • Bible story: The believers meet to pray, learn and share (Acts 2:42-47).
  • Verse to print on the page: "And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers." (Acts 2:42, KJV)
  • Line-art brief: A courtyard of a simple house with six people sitting on mats, one reading a scroll, a jar and bread on a low table, an olive tree in the corner. Medium outlines (about 2.5 pt), a main scene with 2 or 3 figures and some background detail such as plants, clouds or buildings, all with open areas big enough for crayons.

Page 3: Jesus calls his friends · Detailed (ages 9 to 12)

  • Bible story: Jesus calls fishermen to follow him by the Sea of Galilee (Matthew 4:18-22).
  • Verse to print on the page: "And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." (Matthew 4:19, KJV)
  • Line-art brief: Jesus on the shore waving to two men in a wooden fishing boat full of nets, waves, rocks, seagulls, hills and a small village in the distance. Fine outlines (about 1.5 pt), a full scene with patterns, textures and smaller details to fill (borders, fabric patterns, leaves, stones) for older children who enjoy a longer colouring task.

Teacher tip: Ask kids to name the people in their 'small group': family, friends and teachers who help them follow Jesus. Have them draw one of those people on the back of their page.

4. Youth group activities

Game: Human Knot Groups of 8 to 10 stand in a circle, reach across and grab two different hands, then try to untangle into one circle without letting go. Talk about how groups only work when everyone works together.

Game: Would You Rather: Fall Edition Quick-fire questions: pumpkin pie or apple pie? Hayride or corn maze? Football game or bonfire? Players move to one side of the room or the other.

Discussion questions Read Acts 2:42-47 together first.

  1. What four things did the first believers devote themselves to? (Acts 2:42)
  2. Why do you think they shared everything and ate together? (Acts 2:44-46)
  3. Who is someone you can count on to pray for you? (James 5:16)
  4. What makes a group feel welcoming to someone new? (Romans 15:7)

Optional challenge: Prayer partner Pair up with someone in the group and swap one prayer request. Pray for each other every day this week.

Prayers for This Week

Free to use in your bulletin, slides or newsletter. Copy, paste and adapt to fit your church.

1. Opening prayer for Sunday worship Gracious God, you made us for one another. Thank you for this church family and for every person here this morning, the regulars and the newcomers alike. As we worship, knit our hearts together. Teach us to love one another the way you have loved us. Speak to us through your Word, and send us out ready to share life in your name. Amen.

2. Prayer for our small groups Lord Jesus, you walked with a small group of friends and taught them to love God and each other. Bless every group starting this fall. Give our leaders wisdom and warmth, our hosts open homes and open hearts, and every member the courage to show up. Let these groups be places where the Bible comes alive, where prayers are answered and where friendships go deep. Amen.

3. Prayer for those who feel alone God of comfort, you see every person who feels lonely, new in town, recently widowed, single, far from family or simply on the edge. Draw near to them. Help our church notice, invite and include. Use us to set the lonely in families, just as you promise. Amen.

4. Prayer for our community Lord of all, bless our town as summer ends and fall begins. Watch over families adjusting to new schedules, workers in every job, and neighbors who are struggling. Show us how to love the people on our street and in our workplace. Amen.

5. Closing blessing Go now in the peace of Christ. May the Lord bless you and keep you; may his face shine upon you and give you peace. Wherever this week takes you, at home, at work, at school or on the road, may you know you are loved and never alone. Go and serve the Lord with gladness. Amen.
