Easter Announcement Ideas for Every Channel
Easter is the high point of the Christian year, and it's often your second-biggest invite moment after Christmas. In 2027, Ash Wednesday is February 10, Palm Sunday is March 21 and Easter Sunday is March 28. That's earlier than many people expect, so the time to plan is January, not March.
Start with one clear message
Before you design anything, write down three things:
- What's happening: every Holy Week and Easter service, with times.
- Who it's for: members, guests, families, people who haven't come in a while.
- One next step: "Bring a friend," "Join us after for brunch," or "Start our new series on April 4."
Everything else (slides, posts, inserts) comes from this one paragraph.
Bulletin and insert ideas
- A Holy Week schedule card. Palm Sunday, Good Friday, and Easter Sunday on a single card. Add a Thursday communion service only if you are actually holding one.
- "What is Holy Week?" Five short lines explaining each day for newcomers and kids.
- Invite cards. Print a stack of small cards members can hand to a neighbor. Put the address and service times on the back.
- Easter flower dedications. If your church does lilies, include the order form and deadline two or three weeks out.
- Easter Sunday welcome page. Like Christmas Eve, assume guests are reading. Keep it friendly and simple.
Slide and screen ideas
- Countdown slides. "Easter is 3 weeks away" builds anticipation without nagging.
- A Lent series slide. If your pastor preaches a Lent series, give it a consistent look so Easter feels like the finish line.
- The schedule slide. The same words as the card, so people see it twice.
Social media ideas
- The invite post. A clean image with service times and a one-line caption people can share.
- Scripture post. "He is not here: for he is risen, as he said." (Matthew 28:6, KJV)
- Behind the scenes. The choir rehearsing, volunteers setting up, the flowers arriving.
- Palm Sunday story. A short video of kids waving palms (with parent permission).
- Good Friday reflection. Quiet, simple, maybe just text on a dark background.
- Easter morning. "He is risen!" with your service times, posted early.
Email and text ideas
- Four weeks out: save the date, plus volunteer sign-ups.
- Two weeks out: full schedule and an invite card to forward.
- Holy Week: a short daily reading or reflection.
- Easter Monday: thank you, plus the next step you chose.
The repetition principle
Most people need to see an announcement several times, in several places, before it sticks. Plan for each Easter message to appear in the bulletin, from the pulpit, on screen, on social media and in email. It may feel repetitive to you. It won't to them.
A simple Easter 2027 timeline
| When | What |
|---|---|
| Mid-January | Confirm services, times and speakers |
| Late January | Design the schedule card and invite cards |
| Ash Wednesday (Feb 10) | Lent series launches; Easter save the date |
| Early March | Print invite cards; flower order form |
| Palm Sunday (Mar 21) | Holy Week schedule everywhere |
| Easter (Mar 28) | Welcome, celebrate, share the next step |
Keep it gentle
Not everyone comes to Easter feeling joyful. Some are grieving, some are curious, some are skeptical. Warm, plain, honest wording welcomes all of them.
